Bridging Education and Conservation: EGIPF Welcomes DSSC Interns

EEGIP Foundation Inc. and the Davao Del Sur State College (DSSC) formally inked their partnership through the Internship Program on July 21, 2025. Present during the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing are Dr. Siverlyn M.Camposano-DSSC Vice President; Dr. Amelie E. Trinidad- DSSC Director for Instruction; Mr.Eumar Jess P. Agbon- DSSC Interns Coordinator; and Ms.Kristine A. Ramos-Interns Adviser for Agroforestry Students. Meanwhile, for EGIPF Team, present are Mr. Joshua Donato-EGIPF Operations Manager; For.Lysle Ann Quema-EGIPF Administrative Communication Officer; and Mr. Michael Martin-EGIPF Sustainable Reforestation Officer/EGIPF Agroforestry Interns Supervisor.

Currently, 7 BS Agroforestry Students from Davao Del Sur State College undergo their internship program with EGIPF.

They are particularly exposed in agroforestry monitoring and maintenance projects in Sitio Namnam, Barangay Marilog-EGIPF’s sustainable reforestation project; farm mapping in Mount Karilongan-EGIPF’s model site for Agroforestry and eco-tourism; geotagging and QGIS mapping in all EGIPF reforestation projects; and involved in all monitoring and maintenance activities for EGIPF sustainable reforestation projects. For the next remaining weeks, the students will be immersed in other EGIPF activities such as permaculture projects in Bayabas, Toril,Davao City and monthly biodiversity monitoring and foot patrolling with Indigenous forest guards. EGIPF Internship Program offers a practical approach to the understanding of forestry and agroforestry and their roles in sustainable management of our environment and natural resources conservation.

It will also provide valuable experiences and encourage students to get involved in the management, protection, and conservation of natural resources. Lastly, engaged students in NGO-led projects aiming for natural resource management and conservation in collaboration with Indigenous people focusing on the application and technology of biological sciences and forest management.
